Efficacy of metoprolol and diltiazem in patients with mild and moderate mitral stenosis in sinüs rhythm

Abstract


 

This study was performed to evaluate the effects of metoprolol and diltiazem on exercise capacity and hemodynamic parameters in 64 patients wth mild and moderate mitral stenosis in sinus rhythm. Ali patients were randomized to metoprolol group and diltiazem group. At the beginning and at the end of each treatment period, a treadmill exercise and M-mode, two dimensional, and Doppler echocardiography were performed. Only metoprolol significantly reduced the peak and mean transmitral gradient and heart rate (P
