ABO and Rh Blood Group Distribution in Malatya Region

Abstract


 

Currently all blood banks perform ABO and Rh system tests routinely in the content of compatibility tests before

transfusion. We aimed to determine distribution of ABO and Rh blood groups in Malatya region. Blood groups of

65.277 donors were determined in Turgut Ozal Medical Center Blood Bank in the last five years which were

included in the study. Blood groups were determined with hemagglutination technique. Of the donors 26.004

(41.21%), 24.304 (37.23%), 9784 (14,99%) and 4285 (6.56%) of the donors had A,O,B and AB blood group,

respectively. While 58.300 (89.3%) of the donors were Rh(+), the remainder 6.977 (10.7%) were Rh (-). ABO and

Rh blood group distribution in our region was similar with the results of the other blood banks all over the Turkey.
